No pools without snake. Noble Park problem is not cultural problem for Sudanese or African
By Deng Kuol Ajith
I was shocked and very much disturbed about the criticism of the Sudanese by media specially channel 7, 9 and SBS news following the killing our of few Southern Sudanese young man at his 18 years old in Noble Park last week, instead of bring to justice those who committed such devil act, the politicians including immigration minister are appoint their hands at Sudanese ethnicity cultural as the crimes is part of our life. The media described Sudanese Noble Park gangs or what ever you called, to us they are groups of Sudanese youth but not gangs, the media called it gang that seem to us as intimations or racism practice by high level of the government. These boys are Australian and they should be address as Australia, the growth up here and the started drink alcoholic here as part of Australia free culture.
I would to liberate on the views that the unacceptable behaviors practices by Sudanese youth group at Noble Park are part and parcel of Sudanese cultures and ethnicity valves and norms, such as behaviors does not belong to any Sudanese cultural and values practices at home back in Sudan.
Sudan is the one of the largest country in Africa and tribes as well as community here in Australia does not represent the whole Sudanese cultures, not even the Africa as large, Sudan is constitutes with many tribes made up of differences communities with diversity background and differences ethnicity and cultural background, none of her communities values the Noble Park as part of Sudanese ethnicity cultures.
We came to Australia not for adventure, the war in Sudan started in 1983, that was 16 may at 4.00 AM in Bor town, when they Southerners took up the armies against injustice or unjust of the Islamic fundamentalist regime in Khartoum, from Islamic oppression and for the freedom of our people which brought CPA ( Comprehension peace Agreement signed in Kenya in 2005 January 9), we lost 3 millions life in the War that last for 21 years none of our young men from 21 years down ward to those born today does not represent very well our values because most of them born outside the cultural norms and not shape by community values, the cultures the acquired does not fit our believes and traditional values and the media and politicians should not generalize the Noble Park problems as a part of Sudanese behaviors.
Furthermore, about 95% of Sudanese still carried the acceptable behaviors and good values of their African original cultures but the media base their judgment for few individual Sudanese-Australia who acquired broken and un cultural behaviors from their fellows citizens, that behaviors or practices in Noble Park were been in records before Sudanese settled in Noble Park. But I accept the lawlessness of few individual and not whole Sudanese community or African who acts the same way.
Australian people are good people in general and have out standard values of love and unity; however, they should not be influence through political reason to hate Sudanese or African by isolating them and look at them as an outcast.
Australia is a home of different nationalities and communities, and their should be bad characters human being, that is why I assumed that every pools had it own snakes includes good fish and bad fish, but fishermen never stop fishing for the seek of catching snake or bad fish, likewise to Sudanese refugees looking settlement in Australia should not be stop due to few bad characters of some Sudanese who misbehaviors here in Australia.
We came to Australia with different visions as Sudanese and we had being affected by various trauma and atrocities committed by the Sudanese Islamic regime in Khartoum, those who knew what had happen to them or their relatives behaviors in positive way and the never involves in such a crimes, those who committed such a crimes are young and under influence of their fellow peers.
It is very much painful to see the media targeting Sudanese as whole as if we all involves in such a criminal acts, they should direct their hand at particular groups or individual but not community whole, what you should do to Australian youth should also be does to Sudanese youth. For example the former Premier son was involved in drink driving last few months but no one appointed hand at any particular community where the son came from, the blame was on him and his family that should be the way you treat young Sudanese.
We left home because of war and we are not looking for more problems, whatever the high level of the government appointed out than the citizens will also does the same that will make our life hard and finding jobs will be difficult for Sudanese because of the outrage characters of media and exaggeration by the media and immigration minister who jumped into conclusion to close door for Sudanese, this show no justification in dealing with Sudanese, I’m asking they others government officials includes prime minister John Howard and leader of the opposition to respond to such announcement made by the Immigration minister Mr. Andrew.
