Freedom and Land Conflict in Sudan

"Who own the Land in Sudan"

Manyok Aciek Mabiei   By Mabiei in Chicago, IL  (Jan 07, 2009)

This article is concern about political change in South-Sudan and perhaps elsewhere in the whole Sudan at large. It is best for every mankind to draw solution and contribute knowledge of experience to the society. The way to success in South-Sudan needs intellectuals and freedom fighters to keep the vision of South-Sudan Government (GOSS) or Sudan People Liberation/Movement (SPLA/M) to a live forever. As long the “self-determination” between the South and North isn’t yet come to end in 2011, the South-Sudan need to make strong foundation about the government through their allies like U.S., Australia, UK, Africa, Israel, and European-communities. Therefore, the Department of Justice needs adequate support from GOSS in way to avoid too many crimes ongoing in the South-Sudan. The Ministers and Cabinets need to reinforce the power to country through law. All powers are under the Cabinet of President of South-Sudan and Vice President of South-Sudan may act same. I believe if the GOSS make the Department of law strong then everything will be normal in South. The GOSS need to build and funds the house of rest in every state in South-Sudan that will help country. “The country without strong law is always  at risk,” the best way to make Justice Department strong the way to lure successful within the country.

Beside, the point, I exhausted when hear about some of my sub-tribes proclaim the piece of lands, while we know our historians of our communities where we emerged Dinkas, Nubians, Nuers, Anyuak, Shulik, Maduri Azande, Bari speakers, Moru, Boyi, Ma’di, Latoko, Acholi, Digdinka, Kakwa, Turkana, Taposa, and many other communities. Our boundaries of lands were we settled in hundred years and where we came to Sudan. Mundri were living in these locations; - Tindalo, Medi, Rekom and some of them were living in Tafi post border shared with Dinka- Bor-community. These communities deeply close to each other. Azande and Bari speaker were came across the border of Congo toward South-Sudan and settled in Yambio area. Most of them were living in small areas called Nzara, Faradje, Watas, Tora, Dungu, and Poko. Some of them where came from Democratic-Republic of Cong and some came from Central African Republic in town called Bangashou relatives of Bantu groups. Some of Moru, Boyi, Ma’di, Latoko, Acholi, Digdinka and Kakwa came from Uganda special place called Gulu in hundred years ago; according to historians of forefather’s who knows more about our communities, emerges until now. Also some of our communities like Turkana and Taposa of South-Sudan. Most of them came from North-Kenya in area called Loki in a few years ago. I’m not telling the story mean that these sub-tribes are not from Sudan, but the way should know our boundaries in Sudan. I don’t  think from all these tribes includes:-  Imatong, Jurbiel, Jurchol, Acholi, Anyuak, Atuot, Avukaya, Azande, Bai, Baka, Banda, Bari, Binga Bongo, Boya, Didinga, Dinka-Jeng, Kakowa, Kuku, Lango, Lotuka, Logir, Lokoya, Lulubo, Nyangwara, Nyepu, Pari, Pojulu, Shilluk, Suri, Lopit, Lugbwara, Maban, Madi, Mangayat, Moro, Mundari, Mundu, Murle, Ndogo, Nuer-Naath, Toposa, Uduk, Woro, Yulu, and many other tribes in Sudan there is anyone who own the land.

I’m not sound here like some my colleagues from Great Equatorians always proclaims the piece of lands in every year that some of Dinkas tired to “grabbling the land” that most of us dislike to talks about it. I take example from some my colleagues not all Equatorians in the land of South-Sudan. People like Charles Kisanga from Azande community and Charles Onyo from Otuho/Latoko community always outshot the war of words about the land grabbing by Dinkas in Great Equatorians. I wish those friends of mine were with me or us during the struggles the time we walks in thousands of miles in “jungle of nightmare” from day and night in the bush, that we hunt for better place we can survive during the wartime. I remember when we were in bush some of tribes denied their identities, they were not call themselves “Southerners” likely some of Anyuak against the SPLA/M call themselves Anyuak of Ethiopia, Nuer of Ethiopia, Acholi of Uganda, Turkana of Kenya, and Bari speakers of Central Zaire. People like Charles Kisanga and Charles Onyo are always proclaiming boundary of lands, while the alive in exile. Mr. Charles Olukok Onyo in Canada and Mr. Charles Kisanga in UK, who fueled the tribe line of war of mouth, while the South-Sudan eager for better change in our fresh nation. I don’t think where they alive in those countries, where they alive there are what so-called, clans, or tribes. “I never heard since I born, if there is what so-called Dinka of Uganda or Ethiopia. I don’t even understand why we call ourselves out in this largest country in continent of Africa. Now the freedom ring in every corner of Sudan we need to go back to Sudan and proclaim the piece of lands where we are during our forefathers. Is that correct? We Southerners we don’t need to build negative of conflict of land problem in South-Sudan. I would not be wondering because there are some of us who never face the difficulties of journey in wartime.

I do believe the real conflict of land-grabbing we sees from “Land of the Fur” represent the largest tribe converted by Arab to Islam and believe the Arabs religious fundamental dream. It is heavy problem a land mixed with different ethnic groups speaks same language called Arabic. Durfurians consider themselves as African native of Sudan. About 95% of the populations living in Darfur are converted to Islam religion doctrines. The vast majority of Darfurians are faces poverty and the lack of education. The whole tribes relied on farming in Darfur, but the vast region holds the tribal lands of many tribes believe in one religion. They are a mixture of Arabs and African origin. In 2003, a rebellion began in Darfur a reaction against the government of Sudan that neglected the political more of the region in war. The government of Sudan neglected them without developing the land and building education for them. They are mistreated by the government of Sudan, although they believe the same religion without helpful by the government of Sudan Regime. That is real conflict about the land grabbling, but for us in South-Sudan isn’t land grabbling. If we called the “land loot or land grabbling” it mean we were not fought the war side by side. I do believe nobody from our entire communities nobody hided on the Mountains during the wartime or betrayer us from other countries.

We all seen a war in Darfur generate a painful and hopelessness feeling and reflect the message of suffering of the people South-Sudan before we were at war. Some of the images give us ideas about the nature of situation in Darfur like South-Sudan problem in the late 1983-2000. Especially looking at some of women and children suffering it applies despairs of hopelessness in Darfur land. The images of people running as they shot by radical on horses, it conveys that the situation has become a dangerous place of killing human being like our time of war. In seeing war, we understand the how situation the in area is dangerous for life no save of civilians. It is also gives us a better understanding of how Darfur problem relate to problematic situations in the South-Sudan area. That time we having only one enemy, but now we divided ourselves and it sound like the tactic of our former radical regime.

In particular, Arab militias, so called Janjaweed, have terrorized the region by killing civilians and sweeping them away from their original home. Darfur is world news and the place where there is “concern,’ across the world by looking children at killing of civilians. As according to United Nation (UN), “Darfur region is place where moral charity” that people need help through such kinds of War. This crisis has also become a greater cause toward human violation of freedom of rights that has become neglected.

Many people are lending their voices to help Darfurians in the killing goings on in Sudan. Besides, that Darfur War the Second largest death Sudanese Civil War, lines of conflict is seen to be political war, but not ethnic tribal, and religious conflict. It isn’t religion conflict or tribe-line that faces civilians in Darfur into death. It is political war rather people called tribal war and religious war, while the whole community region believed in ideology of Islam dream. The one side of the armed conflict is composed mainly of the Sudanese military and the Janjaweed, a militia group recruited mostly from the Arab Baggara tribes of the Northern Western Sudan.

The government of Sudan neglected Darfurians without developing the land and building education and includes them in power sharing. Evenly, Dr. Garang dislikes religion, which mixes with government called Islamism-law. Garang was used political against radical regime and supports the Western Darfur of Sudan to apply political war against government regime and Darfur lured and declared war in 2003. The government of Sudan under President Bashir supports the war in Darfur that born 6 year’s conflict in region. The victims of the attacks are now defenseless their civilians who inhabit the region. Darfur needs their freedom of right in Sudan by including them in power sharing in the government of Sudan. They are mistreated by the government of Sudan, although they believe the same religion without helpful by the government of Sudan. Looking at images of the war in Darfur it gives we clue that “dirt crime’ in the world time that happened in Darfur land.

Apparently, Darfur war, it is political war rather people called tribal war or religious war, as the whole tribe believed in ideology of Islam Dream radical government. The one side of the armed conflict is connected mainly of the Khartoum military that called Janjaweed, a militia group recruited mostly from the Arab Baggara tribes of the Northern Western Sudan to against Darfurians and against to south. The governments of Sudan, was control Darfur and its surrogate the Arab militias called Janjaweed, have remarked disaster to areas where they claim they have no knowledge of what is going on in Darfur. But the government of Sudan under President Bashir fueled the war in Darfur war that born 6 years of existing war death. The victims of the attacks are the defenseless civilians who inhabit the region. But Darfur needs their freedom in Sudan by including them in power sharing in the government. They were neglect in the power sharing in the government since independent of Sudan from British in 1956. The crisis in Darfur is violence between Darfur and hostility militias from government of Sudan attack them. It is outlaw less a campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting Darfur’s blacks; the armed militiamen raped women, burned houses, and tortured and killed men of fighting age. Through whole Western of the region, they left civilians dead in region.

Actually, as many people called, “the longest fighting in Darfur is usually described as racially motivated; pitting mounted Arabs against black rebels.” Darfur descends into chaos allows me to talk about chronic suffering in Darfur of Sudan. It is disaster knows by millions of people across the world called a violation of human right called “genocide” by many people in Westerns and Africans. It is a good idea from United Nation, United States, United Kingdom, and many countries across the world to put their voice to help out defenseless people of Darfur displaced and millions of them are killed. It is evil genocide that many people never heard about it many years. Throughout of war reflection from Darfur is a place of hopeless and despairs increases of death every nowadays than like more than 300,000 people died in less 6 years since 2003.

We looking at this problem of war in Darfur region give us a full message for what was going on over-two-decades in South-Sudan. We cannot relate this problem in Darfur like South-Sudan like land conflict within the tribes. It is most differ Southerners are all Christians and northerners are all Muslims. When we analyze the suffering of people of Durfurians lose hope and restless. The warless reflecting the true abusive in land of Darfur. We can’t be doubt of looking of this suffering of Durfurian in Western Sudan from these militia groups supported by government of Sudan. The problem of Durfurians isn’t same like our in South-Sudan during we struggle in wartime. The different between the Durfurians our land is very fertile land and we have many trees in bushes, but Furs always target by militias in the Desert of Sudan.

I disappointed and weight the suffering we faces have no different with people of Western Sudan same to Southerners during our struggle in twenty two years in the bushes. I remember the “songs” we always sung in the bushes where we cross the border to border from Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and many places we travelled. Sudan People Liberation Army/Movement; “we the SPLA/M we can’t give up our land to our foe. We don’t like this problem to be happening three times as another war in history of Sudan to repeat. This country is our country and we can’t leave to our enemy Mr. Garang de Mabior, “give us guns to be back to our country to end the problem. “Our leader Garang what the man dislike we can’t leave without solution. What father of the land started can’t go without solution or negative. What disappointed a man can’t go without solutions or unchanged. Nothing goes away, while the owner follow its. Our leader Garang what is called (Sharia Law) which we will reject us the SPLA of today. “We men of the South Sudan can’t afraid, if we all die for what happen in our land.” The men don’t fear during obligation. Our leader Garang we can’t leave you alone in this situation of our country (Red-Army songs in 1989). I hope this article will make some contribution to political change in South-Sudan and perhaps elsewhere in Sudan. It is best for mankind to draw solution and contribute knowledge of experience to his people.
